research
As noted on the first page, my research interests range from religion and politics to patronage and corruption. I have also worked on the subject of state destruction and empire in 19th and 20th century Africa. These fields of research each reflect my strong interest in the interface between political economy, institutions, and various forms of rent-seeking. My main foreign languages are French and Italian, with some knowledge of German. I have carried out a number of years of field research in France, Italy, and Germany, as well as in other European countries.
