Typeface Family

Two components comprise a PostScript font, a screen font suitcase file and PostScript printer typeface files. Together these components make a typeface family.

A font is the complete set of characters at one size, in one style, of one typeface, within one family. A typeface is a specific style within the typeface family. A typeface family is the name of the typeface design, and includes all the components, sizes, and variations of that design. A typestyle is a variation on the typeface family design idea. A PostScript point is the unit for digital type size, and is one seventy-second of an inch.

Example, 'Times Italic 10' is the ten point font of the Italic typeface from the Times family.
