The traditional definition of 'font' changed with digital fonts, because they have electronic information files along with the letterforms. Fond(t) is an acronym from 'font' and the resource or 'descriptor' file. A fond is the digital type family, the screen fonts, the PostScript printer fonts, and other files necessary for fonts to function on the computer.
Digital typeface design tools, such as Fontographer, are based on Bezier curves that use anchor points and control points. Ikarus is another application important to digital typeface design. Ikarus is unique because the curve information is in the application code and controlled only by anchor points. There are no control points in Ikarus as there are in Bezier based application.
