Welcome to AKD!
The Beta Chapter
of Arizona State University invites Sociology majors, as well as anyone
interested in the social sciences disciplines, to participate in an active
program of events each semester. Activities typically revolve around three
main areas: community service, social & academic workshops & lectures,
and fund-raising opportunities. Majors are also invited to an induction
ceremony for new members, as well as an AKD/Faculty mixer that provides
students with an opportunity to meet and talk with members of the Sociology
faculty. Refreshments and snacks are served at most workshops and lectures.
Again, anyone with an interest in sociology is invited to attend!
Recent AKD
activities have included:
-
A fund-raising
bake sale.
-
Volunteer work
at the local St. Vincent dePaul.
-
Workshops on getting
into graduate school, writing personal statements, letters of recommendation,
etc.
-
Tips on taking
the GRE.
-
Talks with current
sociology grad students.
-
Guest speakers
about careers for sociology majors and applying your degree to the "real"
world.
And other informal
and fun get-togethers.
