Stories/Oral History

Charlotte Field, of Findlay, Ohio, attends the 1907 meeting in Keokuk, Iowa.

The following is from the Blue and Gold of Findlay High School, the year book for 1907:

"Among the new and permanent organizations of our High School is a first-class orchestra. It has been the desire of the school for many years to possess a good musical organization, but it was 1905 before an orchestra was finally numbered among the associations in Findlay High. At first, the works of the orchestra was to furnish music for rehtoricals (sic), but its field has been broadened greatly in the years of its work. Among the things for which it has played, one can mention the Northwestern Ohio Teacher's Round Table Association, the oratorical contest, the Y.M.C.A. reception to the football team, two amateur plays and the debating contest. At times, the players have freely given their time and talent to outside organizations, and recently, they were engaged for a club party in preference to an older and better known orchestra. One cannot praise too much the work of the individual players nor the work as of the organization as a whole. The music is always excellent and delights those who hear it very much. It always gives a charming variety to rhetoricals (sic). Just how much the High School is indebted to its orchestra would be a hard question to answer, but the applause given its renderings is usually a testimony of the hearty appreciation of the students. Miss Field, the director, has intentions for next year, which promise many good things from the orchestra for the school."
