Herbert Emerson Leedy was born on August 5, 1875, in Jefferson Township, Richland County, Ohio. He was the 8th child in a family of 9 children born to Aaron A. and Elizabeth Ann (Garber) Leedy. He was raised on his father's farm. He attended the Keokuk meeting in 1907. He married Anna Grace Wagner in Knox County, Ohio, on June 3, 1908. He and his wife were the parents of two children: Russel Wagner Leedy and Ruth Elizabeth Leedy. Herbert Emerson Leedy died on November 14, 1954, and is buried in the Foret Cemetery, Fredericktown, Middlebury Township, Knox County, Ohio.
Education
He received his formal education in the public schools, district #7 in Jefferson Township, Richland County, Ohio. He also studied agriculture at Ohio State University and music at Northwestern University.Professional career
He attended the 1907 conference in Keokuk, Iowa. He was the Director of Music in the Fredericktown Public Schools from1910 until his death in 1954

The brick farm house that H.E. Leedy was raised in was filled with music instruments of all kinds. The entire family was musically inclined, although the family made their living by farming. Herbert Emerson Leedy was a Prohibitionist. He was also a member of the Baptist church. He was a member of the "Progressive" political party. He was a member of the local farm co-op. He was Master and a delegate to the Ohio State Grange in 1921. He was a member of Patrons of Husbandry and the F. & A.M.
