372 Document Production
This is a course where students
learn to design and critique documents which
integrate visual and textual
elements. Students learn design principles
and work with desk top publishing
software to complete projects such
as brochures, newsletters, flyers,
letterheads, and may set up their
individual webpages.
The course is practical and hands-on.
There is ample opportunity to develop
good communication skills and
design techniques. The skills students
develop in this course will help
them become professional communicators
in a variety of business and
technical applications.
The course fulfills the L requirement
and is required for the Writing Certificate.

374 Technical Editing
This is a course where students
prepare to become editors and information
designers. Students learn editing
and principles of analysis of technical
discourse. Students not only
learn to proofread and copyedit, they learn how
comprehensive editors work with
writers and production teams to publish
texts of all kinds from start
to finish.
The course fulfills the L1 requirement
and is an elective for the
Writing Certificate.

ENG484
Internship
In this course, students participate
in an internship through the Department
of English. There are two types
of internships: Regular and Writing Certificate.
Students work in a business,
government agency, or nonprofit group and
report their activities to me.
In addition, they keep a log, read a text about the
processes of becoming an effective
and confident worker, and meet with other
interns to share their experiences.

Impact of Communication Technology on Society
I often teach a class designed
for Technology students on the East campus.
In this class students examine
some of the issues and problems involved
with new developments in technology.
In particular, the class focuses on the
social issues and problems of
new communication technologies.

TWC400
Technical Communications
I teach this class at the East
campus. Students learn oral and written
communication skills they will
use in Engineering/Technology workplaces.
They write papers and give oral
presentations about problems in their
individual fields of study. They
learn about ethical and social influences that
affect rhetorical situations.
