Amanda VanSteelandt
PhD candidate in Global Health

I have undergraduate degrees in Biological Sciences and Primatology, and a masters in Sociocultural Anthropology.  My research focuses on infectious diseases and the social, cultural, and biological interactions that aid or prevent their spread in human populations.

My dissertation research examines the role of cultural transmission (the transfer of beliefs, behaviors, and values from one culture to another) in the disease ecology of tuberculosis by comparing two indigenous Nivacle communities in Paraguay.  You can read more about it on my research page, or follow my progress in the field on my blog.
