The David Carroll Bassoon Collection.
In the fall of 2007, the ASU bassoon studio received a tremendously generous gift from my former teacher Mr. David H. Carroll. Mr. Carroll was formerly Associate Principal Bassoon of the New York Philharmonic and a faculty member of
The Juilliard School. A past winner of the Geneva International Music Competition, he was formerly Principal Bassoon of the Montreal Symphony. Mr. Carroll earned his Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from the New England Conservatory. As a Fulbright Scholar and a Koussevitzky Fellow he also holds diplomas from the Ecole Normale de Musique in Paris, and from London's Royal Academy of Music. He has appeared as a guest artist and recorded with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center.
Mr. Carroll’s life-long collection of bassoon-related books, LPs, CDs and music now resides amongst the collections of the ASU Music Library. Mr. Carroll’s contribution includes more than 150 bassoon solos, 215 chamber music pieces, 80 etude and excerpt books, 100 CDs and LPs, and nearly 100 bassoon ensemble pieces, many of which are his own Bubonic Bassoon arrangements.
The ASU bassoon studio is delighted to receive such a wondrous contribution from one of the master bassoon performers and teachers of our time, an important legacy and resource for future generations of ASU music students.
