Weekly Lesson Rubric for Applied Bassoon Majors - Spring 2008 -

Preparation and Progress
(65 points)
Student demonstrates a high level of musical preparation from previous lesson. Performance demonstrates a significant progress on areas targeted in previous lessons.
(65-60 points)
Student demonstrates a moderate level of musical preparation from previous lesson. Performance demonstrates a moderate level of progress on areas targeted in previous lessons.
(59-55 points)
Student demonstrates an average level of preparation from previous lesson. Performance demonstrates an average level of progress on areas targeted in previous lessons.
(54-40 points)
Unsatisfactory musical preparation and progress from previous lessons.
(39-0 points)

Reed
Reed making is crucial to any bassoonist’s success. Your goal is to perform every other lesson on a new, performance-quality reed.
(20 points)

Student is performing on a new or one-week old, performance-quality reed. Reed is flexible in all ranges, has good intonation and a pleasant, resonant sound.
(20-17 points)
Student is performing on a new or one-week old rehearsal-quality reed. Reed has problem(s) with flexibility, intonation and/or sound.
(16-14 points)
Student is performing on new or one-week old practice-quality reed. Reed has problem(s) with flexibility, intonation and/or sound.
(13-10 points)
Student is performing on a reed from a previous lesson that is two or more weeks old.
(9-0 points)
Knowledge of Repertoire
(5 points)
Student demonstrates a high level of understanding of the essential elements of the piece (i.e. terminology, keys, structure, etc.)
