Using the Macintosh 7300/180 with the Apple PC Compatibility Card

This is no ordinary computer! It is both a PowerMacintosh 7300/180, with 48 MB RAM, 1GB hard drive and a Pentium P5 166 PC (by way of an Apple PC Compatibility card installed internally), also with 48 MB RAM, 1GB hard drive. The Power Mac is currently running System 7.6.1, while the PC is running Windows 95.

Switching between the MacOS and PC environments

Although the MacOS and PC environments can run simultaneously, you can only use one of the environments at a time. There are three ways you can switch between the MacOS and the PC.

Method 1:

Press Command-Return.
The monitor screen will fade briefly as it switches between environments. Be patient.

Method 2:
Choose Control Panels from the Apple ( [[apple]] ) menu.
Double-click the PC Setup icon.
Click on the button "Switch to PC" located at the bottom left of the window.

Method 3:

Open the Control Strip that appears at the bottom left of your screen.
Open the pop-up menu in the PC Setup module (this module looks like a small screen and has a C:\ in it) of the Control Strip and choose "Switch to PC."

Using PC Setup to Turn the PC On and Off

To shut down the PC, click Shut Down PC.

To turn off the PC Compatibility Card altogether, click the radio button at the top right of the window labeled Off, then restart the MacOS by selecting Restart in the Special menu.
