Seamless mosaics of satellite images of the Southwest and beyond RGB=742 and 1990 Landsat TM
Band 7, Red, is in the Reflected IR (Near IR), 2.08 to 2.35 microns
wavelength. It coincides with and absorbtion band of hydroxyl ions in
minerals. Band 4, Green, is also in the Reflected IR (Near IR), 0.76 to 0.90
microns wavelength. It is in the high reflectance portion of vegetation
(thus things that are green in those images are mostly vegetation...).
Band 2, Blue, is in the visible green portion of the spectrum (0.52 to
0.60 microns), and it is thus also indicative of plant vigor (green
reflectance peak).
