Professor Anthony Gully

Professor Anthony Gully is the senior member of the History of Art faculty at Arizona State University.  He received his MA from the University of California at Berkeley and his Ph.D. from Stanford University. He has published chiefly on British art: most recently John Ruskin and the Victorian Eye (Abrams,  NYC). He has served as editor for The Hilliard Chronicle (1995-97), Studies in Iconography  (1983-95), Phoebus (1974-77).  He has served on the editorial boards of  The College Art Journal and Albion.  He is currently working on a study of John Ruskin and Italian Renaissance Art and an examination of the portrait of Queen Elizabeth lst of England in the Siena, Italy, City Art Museum, and the role of portraits of the Queen in diplomatic maneuvering and marriage negotiations.  He has taught in the ASU Florence Program for 15 summers.
