Native American Projects

Americans for Indian Opportunity (AIO) has organized a number of workshops and other projects with which Professor Broome has been involved.  AIO is a Native American organization founded and directed by Ladonna Harris, Comanche, based in Albuquerque, New Mexico.  Most of the workshops, dealing with issues such as economic development and tribal governance issues, have been conducted with individual Tribes, including the Comanche, Apache, Cheyenne & Arapaho, Pawnee, Winnebago, and Menominee.  Many of these projects have been offered in collaboration with Oklahomans for Indian Opportunity (OIO), directed by Iola Hayden, based in Norman Oklahoma. Other projects include AIO's Ambassador Leadership Program, funded in part by the Kellog Foundation, which works each year with a new class of young Native American leaders, helping them increase their skill and vision for contributing to their tribe and community.
