Course Description and Objectives

"Information Society" and "knowledge worker" have become catchwords of our time, symbolizing the importance of information to our society, culture, and economy. Implicit in the idea of "knowledge worker" and "information society" is the individual's capacity to use information within a given context. This course is about information: how it is created, organized, disseminated, and used with an emphasis on the impact of technologies as well as surrounding economic, legal, and social issues.

To explore issues of technology and how they impact information and the way we communicate, we will be using a wiki for class discussions and some assignments.

Graduate Students: Students registered for graduate credit (TWC598) will complete an additional assignment.

84 - 95 pts C Adequate. Work is complete, somewhat consistent and analytical. Assignments somewhat demonstrate awareness of audience and purpose. Information is not consistently organized and formatted, may be unclear or incorrect.
72 - 83 pts D Inadequate. Work is inconsistent, lacks thoroughness and/or analysis. Assignments demonstrate little awareness of audience and purpose. Information is not well organized or formatted, is unclear and incorrect.
0 - 71 pts E Failure. Work is incomplete, off-topic, offensive, or inappropriate. Assignments demonstrate no awareness of audience and purpose and do not fulfill requirements. Information is not organized or formatted, is unintelligible, unclear, and error-filled.
