"Information Society" and "knowledge worker" have become catchwords of our time, symbolizing the importance of information to our society, culture, and economy. Implicit in the idea of "knowledge worker" and "information society" is the individual's capacity to use information within a given context. This course is about information: how it is created, organized, disseminated, and used with an emphasis on the impact of technologies as well as surrounding economic, legal, and social issues.
On completion of this course, students will be able to:
Many class sessions will focus on discussion of readings and other activities that will enhance our understanding of topics. Therefore, class participation is expected and will be incorporated as part of the final grade. Three assignments are listed below with their respective evaluation criteria.
Graduate Students: Students registered for graduate credit (TWC598) will complete an additional assignment.
Many readings are available on the web. Others can be accessed through the Library's electronic reserve system. Contact the instructor or the Library for the password.
