Course Objective:

This course will give students experience in developing both written and oral communication skills appropriate to working in several basic technical genres.


Assignments:

All students will be expected to produce a

Memo or email x 1
Write a memo or an email in response to a given scenario.

Instructions x 2
Find a small piece of relatively undocumented software that you are comfortable using so that you can instruct others. Determine the level of audience you will be writing to (novice, expert, or others), and write basic instructions.

Proposal x 3
Present a request for funding, implementation of a new program or policies or any other request which requires approval. Make sure need is documented.

Oral presentation using appropriate visuals of your Proposal x 1
Present your proposal to the class.

Progress Report x 1
Write a progress report assuming that your proposal has been accepted and is partially complete.

Report on Research x 5 and an Abstract of that Report x 1
Create and carry out a small research project. Present a formal report of your findings. Include an abstract of that report.
