Course Objective:

To introduce students to strategies, formats, and techniques of presenting information to business and other workplace audiences.


Assignments:

All students will be expected to produce

Collection of Correspondencex 2
Students will write letter, memos, and email responding to given situations.

Feasibility Report (collaborative project) x 2
Students will work in assigned groups to evaluate two or more alternative solutions to an identified problem and make a recommendation

Short Proposal x 3
Students will propose a change for a business or organization they know. Part of the proposal must be identifying an appropriate place to gather information off-site.

Oral Presentation x 1
Students will present the substance of their Proposal to the class.

Job Search Material x 2
Students will create materials appropriate for a job search such as a résumé and a cover letter.

Annual Report x 3
Students will create an Annual Report (minus financial details) appropriate for a business, a government agency, or a non-profit.

Graduate Assignment x 2
Graduate students will do a short (5-7 page) analytical paper describing the rhetorical (both textual and visual) decisions they used while writing their Annual Reports. The paper should demonstrate a thorough understanding of the needs of the audience of the report.
