The
trail is located within the Kanab Creek Wilderness. The recommended AZ20-20 turnaround point for this trail is the junction with the Jumpup/Nail Trail #8, near Lower Jumpup Spring. The Jumpup Canyon hike can be combined with the Kanab Canyon (via Slide Canyon and Snake Gulch) hike. Continuing on the Jumpup-Ranger Trail #41 past its junction with the Nail Trail and turning north (right) up Kanab Creek, it is a total of 17 miles on #41 to where you turn right onto the Kanab Creek/Snake Gulch Trail #59. From there it is a couple of miles (no exact estimate available) to the junction with the Slide Canyon trail, where you turn right, and continue for maybe 7-8 miles to the Slide Canyon trailhead. However, be aware that Slide Canyon Trail #58 is not signed or maintained, so exercise caution and bring good USGS topo maps and a compass and know how to use them. From the Slide Canyon trailhead it is approximately 5 miles on FR 423 to return to the Ranger trailhead. Allow 3-4 days to complete this approximately 32 mile loop. |

Turn left on FDR 22 and go about 8.5 miles to FDR 447. Turn right on FDR 447 and go 4 miles to FDR 427; then turn right on FDR 427 and go 0.3 mile to FDR 234. turn left and go 7 miles to FDR 423. Turn left to the end of the road at Jumpup Cabin (about 0.8 mile). | |
