Hallstatt, Austria...

I first visited Hallstatt in 1992 with a tour group.  We were all so enchanted by the village that we talked our tour director into staying there an extra two days.  Since that time, it has held a special place in my travel heart.  I was finally able to visit the village with my wife, and she was completely enamored with it as well!  As we were eating dinner one night on the shore of the Lake, I asked her if she wanted to come back again, and she nodded vigorously.  I asked her, "Why?"  She responded, "For the peace..."  Indeed, Hallstatt makes an incredible impression on all those that visit.  The famous European travel guide/author, Rick Steves, notes that, "...there are lots of little villages in the Alps, but Hallstatt is the only one that really matters [for travelers]."  I am always happy to see that through the years, Hallstatt changes very little.

The Hallstatt Website, while mostly in German, offers some superb insight and pictures of this quaint village.  You can also visit the Official Austrian Tourism site online, and learn that Hallstatt is one of the few World Cultural Heritage Sites!!

Throughout history, Hallstatt has been an important place.  But rather than me reiterating what others have already researched, try the Hallstatt History site for a brief overview of its importance!  It is truly an amazing place!  And as my chiropractor says, "Hallstatt has it all--something for everyone..."  Indeed!  Click on a picture to see it at full resolution!
