Below I share some of my interests.

Teaching

I have taught a wide variety of physics and astronomy courses for physics majors, science majors (not physics), and nonscientist majors.  Most recently I have taught introductory physics for engineering and premed students, mathematical methods for physicists, and a course on spacetime physics for high school science teachers.  This semester I am looking forward to once again teaching University Physics.  Soon I shall begin thinking about updating the course Astrophysics I taught a couple years ago for the Master of Natural Science program here at ASU.

Reading

I average reading about 30 books per year.  earlier this year I read The Day we Found the Universe by Marcia Bartusiak.  If you want to see the human side of physicists this is your book.  I laughed out loud at times reading what they said about their work and each other.

I also read The American Journal of Physics (from the American Association of Physics Teachers), Physics Today, and various other journals and magazines when time permits.  I will shamelessly plug the following magazines Asimov’s Science Fiction, Analog Science Fiction and Science Fact, and The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction.  If you like science fiction and fantasy it will be worth your time to check out these print publications.

Food

Three words: I love food.  It’s that simple.  I love trying new foods and new recipes.  My favorite place to be besides the classroom is my kitchen.

Travel

This summer I traveled to San Diego, San Luis Obispo, and Niagara Falls.

Star Wars

I am a huge fan of the original trilogy.  And yes I do have Darth Vader shampoo.
