1. Use pubmed, google, GEO (Gene expression Omnibus), etc. to look for a micro-array dataset that is publicly available. Explain what the data contains. I.e., what the columns and rows mean. Explain three different mining tasks that can be done using that data set. (You will get 50 bonus points if your dataset corresponds to some article that you can print. In that case, refer to that article, read the article and list how the data set was used; what kind of analysis was done and what conclusions were made.)
2. Familiarize youreslf with Entrez. (This Tutorial is a good starting point.) Come up with five questions that can not be automatically answered using just a single query (even in advanced mode) in Entrez. Explain why you think it can not be automatically answered using just a single query. Explain how you can answer that query by asking multiple simpler questions and integrating the answer that you get.
