Computer Architecture Syllabus

CSE 420/598 is introductory course to computer
architecture. The topics to be covered include fundamentals of computer design, performance and cost, instruction set architecture, processor technology, pipelining, memory system (caches, virtual memory), input/output systems and bus communications, and
parallel processors.

CAQA = Hennessy and Patterson, Computer Architecture: A Quantitative Approach, 4th Edition.

- CAQA Chapter 2

- CAQA Chapter 5
- CAQA Chapter 3 (time permitting)
The grading for CSE 420 is as follows:

Homework Assignments - five at 8% each - 40%
Always due at the start of class.
- Midterm Exam - 20% - Date 16 October in class
If your percentage grade on the final exam exceeds your percentage grade on the midterm exam, then the grade on the final replaces the grade on the midterm.
- Final Exam - 40% - Date 06 December, 7:40-9:30 a.m.
The grading for CSE 598 is as follows:

Homework Assignments - three at 10% each - 30%
Always due at the start of class.
- Midterm Exam - 20% - Date 16 October in class
- Project Phase One (Team) - 30% - Due Date 30 October
A template for an interim report is due on 9 October to be discussed in a short
meeting on 11 October.

There is no final exam for 598.

Students may discuss homework and programming
assignments with their classmates; however all work turned in is expected
to be that of the individual. If you have any questions regarding appropriate
collaboration please see the instructor.
Late submission of work is not permitted without a documented justification (medical or family emergency).
