Lyrics for The Millions's M Is For Millions
Note: These lyrics were obtained from repeated listenings to the album.
They are in no way connected with the actual lyrics, which may bear a
very striking resemblance to the ones in this file. Anything which I
consider questionable is marked with a (?).
All songs written by The Millions (Lori Allison, Marty Amsler,
Harry Dingman III, Greg Hill), © 1991 (I think).
Commentary: a good band from my hometown of Lincoln, NE, that ``recently'' broke
up. They had an interesting musical career, including having their first
album reviewed in a German heavy-metal magazine (!). They didn't include
lyrics in their first album. (Hey, they didn't even identify
themselves on the cassette version of this album!)
I always felt that they got sides one and two mixed up, and
that the real album order would be ``Breathe'' to ``Ordinary Men,'' then
``Guilty'' to ``Sometimes.'' Chords for ``West'' are forthcoming (but
don't hold your breath).
``Guilty''
Easily through the trees, I can see what he is missing,
Gentle wind pulls on my hair.
Easily through the trees, I can see what he is free of,
We breathe in clean sweet air.
Tell me, what you once were, why are you this way?
Tell me if your mind hurts, shall I go away?
[Is he always guilty? Is he always?] Is he always?
Please hold the crying man, love me all you can,
I'll be the one you pray for and serve my fate.
Let me be your reason, I need to be strong,
Please hold the crying man and serve my fate.
Carved in stone, left alone, as so many troubled faces,
I see them out my window.
Tumble down, roll around, wrestle with the demons,
All the sun turns into rain.
Love me, I can tell you anything, I can tell you anything.
``Smiling And Shaking''
When's the last time you said something you meant,
When's the last time you meant something you said,
The more you say, I want to yell.
When's the last time I got you on the phone,
When's the last time I spoke with you alone,
The more you say, I want to yell, the more I yell.
Oh oh, do you have what I need to live?
Oh oh, I'll take what you have to give.
When's the last time you said something you meant,
When's the last time you meant something you said?
I won't forget you 'till you're gone,
I won't forgive you, I'm that strong.
Oh oh, do you have what I need to live?
Oh oh, I'll take what you have to give.
Just give me what you will.
Do I believe you? You're smiling and shaking my hand,
Do I believe you? You're smiling and shaking.
``Riga (Freedom)''
Say, I don't even know your name,
Hold my hand, our love's a chain,
I don't even know your name.
Say, what's the chance of getting through?
Can't they tell we have our proof?
Hold my hand.
Across three countries, freedom, the word freedom,
From our hearts, for the world
Say, I don't even know your name,
Hold my hand, our love's a shame,
I don't even know your name.
Freedom, freedom.
Say, I don't even know your name.
``Agnus Dei''
``West''
I thought I met you all over again,
You walked out of a dream and had pale skin.
I reached over to touch your hand,
You said no, not here, not in this land.
On summer days I bring flowers for you,
Autumn leaves blow with the silence of you.
I felt confused, what land were we in?
Why couldn't I touch you, why were your lips not red?
You looked faded, you looked oh so far away,
I could hardly hear what you were trying to say.
You said, ``please go away, I died yesterday,
Remember me and I'll live our way.
It was my time, the clock has run out,
I had to leave my tired mortal life.''
On summer days I'll bring flowers for you,
On this winter day, the snow falls and covers you,
Covers you, flowers cover you.
``Sometimes''
Waking from the night, the moon had turned on its side,
Turning from your sight, I can't change the way I feel.
I was as they say, the promise made but not so save,
Your lips pretend to smile.
Just remember how you got there, just remember how it's done.
Lasting in a time when nothing holds any more,
(?) from the sun, time will tell me when to care.
Did I (?) your, it will take your (?)
So we stay alone, I can't change the way I feel.
You know it's there, sometimes, sometimes you know it's there.
``Breathe''
Breathe for me, breathe me in,
Through some dirty window, wiping with my hand to see better.
Breathe for me, breathe me in,
Lose, catch your breath, I don't feel, you'll have to help me see,
Through your dirty window, I can wipe it clean, you'll have to help me see.
Right about how it should be.
``In The Alley''
I sleep alone at night a lot, but it's okay,
All alone I find I sleep better anyway.
Wishing you were like me doesn't do a thing,
But I really need you, need you when I'm shaking.
In the alley, wait for me, in the snow-cold rain,
In the alley, alley, wait for me.
You run away from me always, but I still care,
Without your dream inside me, I just breathe the air.
Wishing you would like me doesn't do a thing,
But I really need you, need you, when I'm shaking.
It's so hard to get anywhere, it's so hard.
``Scream''
Tell me why the sunset's red, don't I know it's in the air.
Tell me when you thought of her next (?) all your life or just now and then.
You can't tell me that you don't know,
Maybe you just don't believe it.
What's the use if people rally for some cause and they don't last long?
You can't tell me that you don't know,
Maybe you just don't believe it.
You can't tell me that you don't know,
Maybe you wish you didn't know.
What's it take to see all the madness that we cause, she'll teach us yet.
``Voices''
I'll take you, take me where, you think I want to take you somewhere.
The boy said to bring you back, you're such a very nice girl,
I stayed, I'd never leave. [They're the ones who left.]
Who are you, I don't know who you are, but you're talking to friend.
You'll take me where I'll lose my youth,
Where I'll feel a hold in the middle, empty open hole.
Those boys said to bring you back, you're such a very nice girl,
I stayed, I'd never leave. [They're the ones who left.]
Who are you, I don't know who you are, but you're talking to friend.
Who are you, I don't know who you are, but you're talking to a stranger.
``Ordinary Men''
He fell for it again, she said as she waved,
Better safe than sorry, it's not worth the worry.
Is it something deep down?
To evade and deceive, she said in the end,
No truth so scary, there is no hurry.
And when you are wrong, your error hurts me,
Oh, why did you try then to appease me?
I know how you lie, you'll never change, I cry.
Quickly pick me up and hold on, or I'll slip and say the wrong words.
That would make you mad at me, even though the mind is strong,
Enough to say I'm sorry, smart enough not to worry,
Pick me up and hold on.
And when you are wrong, your error hurts me,
Oh, why did you try then to appease my mind?
I know how you lie, you'll never change, I cry.
Ooh, it's as easy as it could be, in one instant,
You'd be with me, you'd be with me.
And when you are wrong, your error haunts me,
Oh, why did you try then to appease me?
I know how you lie, you'll never change,
I try to change you.
