Use complete sentences and paragraphs to succinctly convey your thoughts. It is important to write clearly for your reader. Think of your writing as a descriptive roadmap that is taking the reader on a trip. You are in charge of the direction the reader will go and where the reader will arrive after reading your work. It is your responsibility to get the reader there safely, with a minimum number of detours, and at the right destination. The following guides should be used when completing the writing assignments for this class. Other guidance or clarification may be necessary. If so, additional instructions will be provided to individual students or in class.

  1. All written assignments must be typed.
  2. Margins: Top - 1"; Bottom - 1"; Right - 1"; Left - 1 ½".
  3. Everything is required to be double spaced. This includes footnotes and references.
  4. Use the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, 4th ed. (1994) for all formatting, citations, quotations, reference lists, and any other guidance required to structure the paper.
  5. Number all pages, except the cover page, in the upper right hand corner.
  6. Use Times New Roman number "12" font if using a word processing package. If using a typewriter use 12 point type.
  7. Use a cover page for all written assignments that includes the course title, semester, the topic of the paper, instructor's name, student's name, and date.
  8. Staple multiple page assignments in the upper left hand corner. Do not use notebooks, folders, or any other type of binder for papers.
  9. Spell check all work.
  10. It is advisable to use a grammar checker if one is available with your software.

Thank You
