Guidelines for Writing Article Reviews

Download this Guide

Article reviews are written overviews of a single article. Articles for review should be selected from a peer-reviewed scholarly journal, preferably one that was published in the last five years. The purpose of this assignment is to give students an opportunity to become familiar with some of the journals within the field of study and to discover what some of the scholars in the field are writing about. Each article review should provide a brief summary of the article, a section on the conclusions or implications drawn by the author, and the student's view of how these conclusions or implications might impact practitioners. The paper should not exceed two pages in length. Therefore, it is important to be concise and to the point. The reader should have a basic understanding of the article and the authors' conclusions after reading the article review.

Use the "Written Assignments Guidelines" to write the article reviews. It is important to credit other authors when you use their work. Not citing others' work is plagiarism. Use the "Publication Manual: of the American Psychological Association, (4th ed.)" for formatting your work. The reference section for the article review should have a single entry that provides a complete bibliographical citation for the article selected.
