WRITE A PROPOSAL FOR A KNIGHT NEWS CHALLENGE GRANT
15 POINTS for writing a proposal about an innovative way to use
the Internet to serve a geographical community in a journalistic way. The
community could be as small as a neighborhood or as large as a city or
possibly a state. In the past newspapers served their local communities.
How can the Internet be used to serve the same function today?
If you want to pursue this, Carol will be delighted to work with you.

5 POINTS for sharing something relevant with your classmates. If possible,

ATTEND A PHOTO EXHIBIT
5 POINTS for attending a photo exhibit at ASU’s Northlight
Gallery (first floor of Matthews Hall, on the southeast corner of Tyler
and Forest Malls) or anywhere else and turning in at least one double-spaced
page critiquing the show. Focus on composition and content. How you
can apply what you’ve learned to your photographic efforts? Maximum:
10 points
PUBLISH IN THE ASU WEB DEVIL
10 POINTS for getting an original story or slide show
published in the ASU Web Devil. Content published in The State Press,
then shoveled onto the Web Devil does NOT count. Maximum:
30 points
WRITE A THANK-YOU LETTER
5 POINTS for sending a thank-you letter to a guest speaker. Guests value
your appreciation, and you’ll have a chance to network and to
synthesize what you’ve learned. Guidelines: Send your letter
within a week. Include something about yourself. Be appreciative;
this is the speaker’s
only payment. Describe what you learned, why it matters and how you can
apply that information. Paper is preferred over e-mail. Be sure to
give me a copy. Maximum: 5 points
