Grading

Logos
Before you start your own logo design, take some time to check out your favorite brands. Bring the URLs of your three favorite logos to class.

Objective
One of our goals to design a personal logo using Photoshop. Let’s assume you’re starting your own web design firm. What would your logo look like?

Work first in black and white. You can add color later. You can make a logo, or you can use your name as a logo.

Evolution of a logo
The examples below show how the logo for the Cronkite convergence project evolved. What do you like (or dislike) about each one?

Once you’re finished with your logo, you’ll write a summary explaining each design elements. Along with your logo, you’ll submit you write-up as a Word document.

1. Drag the folder called YOUR NAME WEBSITE onto the desktop. Substitute your name.

2. To replace the text in the text file, open mytextfile.txt. Replace everything EXCEPT body=. Make sure there’s no space after the = and your first word of text. Save the file.

3. Open personpage_front.fla in Flash (red circle with an "f" in the middle).

4. To change the name, click on the letter A in the toolbar (third from the top on the right side).

5. Click on Nancie A. Dodge, and a cursor will appear. Replace Nancie A. Doge with your name.

6. Change the colors by clicking on the black arrow tool in the top left of the toolbar, then on the paint bucket at the bottom of the toolbar. Select a new color.

7. WARNING! Advanced screwing with the files is done at your own risk. To change the shape that holds the test, click on the shape you want to change. Press delete to get rid of the shape. Select the circle, pen, line, or rectangle tool from the tool palette. Draw a new shape. Move it into position with the arrow tool. Ask the L&G for help if you think you need it or you’ll mess up. Either way, we’ll make it work for you.

8. Save the Flash file. Click APPLE + RETURN to test your movie (or go to CONTROL at the top and click TEST MOVIE). You’ll know if it worked!

9. To substitute your photo, go to File > Import > Import to Library.

10. Go back to the Flash stage. Click ONCE on the lovely photo.

11. If the property inspector isn’t open, go to Window > Properties.

12. This will open the properties box for the picture. Click on the swap button.

13. In the dialogue box, find the name of the file you imported. Select it by clicking once. Click OK. Your picture should now replace mine.

14. Choose the sound file you want to import. Click Open.

15. When you’re finished, save the file. Click APPLE + RETURN to test your movie (or go to CONTROL at the top and click TEST MOVIE). Enjoy your masterpiece!
