Log in

Log onto server
     From the classroom
           Username: 425sch
           Password: student

     From elsewhere on campus
     Open 425sch and Students

Use dock to select applications—put mouse over icon to see name
     Finder
     BBEdit—text editor you’ll use to write straight HTML
     Dreamweaver (Macromedia)—web editor that writes HTML
     Photoshop (Adobe)—photo manipulation and graphics program
     Flash (Macromedia)—interactive animations and slide shows
     iMovie (Apple)—simple program for editing digital video
     Sound Studio (Felt Tip)—simple program for editing digital audio

Review browsers—Safari, Firefox, IE

Familiarize yourself with top menu
     File menu—create folders, find and open files, get info
     Edit—cut, copy, paste, save, save as
     Help—Mac help files

Try three different views (icon, list, multi-list)
      Scroll horizontally
      Preview images, audio, video

Open files by dragging them onto program icon on the dock
      Drop-down menus: triangle vs. double-click
      Stop-light icons in top left of each window close OR hide OR maximize
      Drag corner to resize window
      Move files from one folder to another

Throw stuff in trash—to delete files and eject disks
      APPLE + DELETE = throws stuff in trash

F keys for viewing
      F9 = multiple applications
      F10 = one application
      F11 = reveal desktop

Keyboard shortcuts
      APPLE + a = all
      APPLE + c = copy
      APPLE + d = duplicate
      APPLE + f = find
      APPLE + o = open
      APPLE + p = print
      APPLE + q = quit (to quit an application)
      APPLE + s = save
      APPLE + v = past
      APPLE + x = cut
      APPLE + z = undo
      APPLE + OPTION + z = multiple undo's

Open STUDENTS folder
      Create a new folder (File > New Folder OR APPLE + SHIFT + n )
      Put your name on it

Name and save files
      Open Word
      Make a document
      Name it
      Save it in your student folder

Find files (File > Find OR APPLE + f = find)

Log off
      Do NOT leave stuff on desktop! You will cry!
      When you log out, computer will erase anything on the desktop.
      Save everything to your student folder AND your thumb drive.
