Week 15

TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 28 | THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 30

DUE TONIGHT

1. Post your 12th blog entry by midnight. Include a photo and a cutline WITH a verb. If you’ve done all ten postings and are happy with your grades, then you do NOT need to make any more entries . . . unless you want to.

DUE THIS THURSDAY
1. HAND IN a short description of ALL the zine stories you worked on. Be sure to include the name of the person who wrote the story (and the photographer if one person took most or all the photos).

2. Also PUT AN ELECTRONIC COPY of your short descriptions in the folder called BLURBS in Zine Fall 2006.

Here are examples:

Pie in the Sky
Story by Erika Wurst
Photos by Amanda Lee Myers
Erika Wurst loves pie, but not just any pie. Her favorite is the homemade pie sold at the café atop Mount Lemmon. Even after the devastating fires of 2003, nothing can stop this café from selling its pies and Erika from having another slice.

A City Girl’s Guide to Hiking
Story by Mindy Lee
Photos by Amanda Lee Myers
A self-proclaimed city girl explores the Superstition Mountains and takes readers on a romp through a landscape peppered with ancient volcanoes, yellow wildflowers, and jumping jack chollas.

Identity Theft Puts a New Face on Crime
Story by Phillip Kuhlman
You throw out your trash just like everybody else. You buy stuff on the Web. You retrieve your mail from a mailbox. You’re also a prime candidate for identity theft. Experts give advice on how to avoid those who want to steal more than your money.

3. TURN IN a short bio to accompany your zine photo.

4. Also PUT AN ELECTRONIC COPY of your bio in the folder called BIOS in Zine Fall 2006.

Here are a few examples:

As a journalism and public relations student, nothing makes me happier than writing and learning more about the unknown. That’s why I’m excited about moving to Miami this summer to work in the communications office of Johnson & Wales University. A recovering workaholic, I enjoy music, photography and movies.

I have a year left as a media production student at the Cronkite School and already have anxieties about the real world. My ultimate goal is to become a film or television producer but will settle for anything media related. If worse comes to worse, I’ll attend the Scottsdale Culinary Institute after graduation.

I’m a 24-year-old media production senior who has been in school too long, but I have no clue what I’m going to do when I’m done. I guess I’ll get a real job.

TUESDAY, DEC. 5

Extra credit! Turn in a short proposal for the Knight News Challenge.

This is the last day to turn in work for extra credit.

THURSDAY, DEC. 7

We will NOT have class today, but we will be in the lab to help you finish your zine pages and revise your team project. This is the last day to finish EVERYTHING.

TUESDAY, DEC. 12

Each team will present its part of Children of the Borderlands. Each team member must contribute to the presentation.

You will also have a chance to show your personal Web site!
