Daria Del Colliano is a broadcast journalism senior at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University. Daria's passion and focus is sports media. She has an array of skills ranging from the print, radio broadcast and online media fields coupled with a vast knowledge in sports, which has afforded her opportunities that have proved invaluable.
Daria dabbled in print journalism when she briefly served as a stringer reporter for the sports department at the Arizona Republic.
Daria also has a rich history and background in sports radio. She served on ASU's campus radio station, The Blaze 1260 AM's sports staff, and had the opportunity to call and spot Arizona State football, basketball and baseball games and also assisted in the radio booth during the Arizona Fall League.
In addition to campus radio, Daria interned and was ultimately placed on staff as a part-time technical assistant and producer at Sports 620 KTAR in Phoenix, AZ. Daria's duties included cutting audio highlights for Arizona Diamondbacks, Suns and Sun Devil sporting events. She also helped produce the postgame shows where she screened listener's calls, cut interview sound and cued up the highlights for the technical director. Daria also assisted and filled in as a spot producer on Sports 620 KTAR's specialized sports radio programs, including "The Doug and Wolf Show" and "620 Sportsline."
Daria's broadcast highlights include volunteering at Sun Devil Television at Arizona State University where she was part of the on-air talent team for "Sun Devil Sidelines," a student run program that covered the ASU football team. Daria also reported, anchored and interviewed student athletes for "Hoops in the Heat," the ASU men and women's basketball show.
Also, during her senior year, Daria served as producer and writer for a student documentary, entitled, "A Deep Hunger Within," with two other classmates in her capstone course. The documentary focused on eating disorders and providing a sense of hope for those who struggle with them. Daria coordinated and arranged interviews with highly trained professionals at Remuda Ranch, a treatment facility in Wickenburg, AZ. She also wrote and voiced the script while assisting with the editing process in Final Cut Pro.
Daria recognizes the ever-changing spectrum of journalism and media and has now shifted her focus to online multimedia. She still hopes to focus on sports and as a result has developed a blog, Ace of Braves, that details the history and current state of Atlanta Braves baseball.
Deeply passionate, hard working and motivated in her field, Daria strives for excellence as as well as promoting continued change and advancement for women in sports media. Her ultimate goal is to break gender barriers by becoming the first women on ESPN's Baseball Tonight panel and eventually serving in a high powered executive position with a sports franchise.
