¹ Really only море ‘sea’ and поле ‘field take’ -ей in gen. pl. Other nouns like жили́ще that at first glance seem to belong to this class actually belong to the -о class of neuter nouns, but the -о becomes -е due to the 5-letter spelling rule; for such nouns the gen. pl. takes a zero-ending, e.g. жили́щ. |
