What is today's date?

When you want to know what the date is, the question to ask is «Какое сегодня число?» The date is always given with an ordinal number, and since число date is neuter, the neuter form of the ordinal number is always used.

Сего́дня пе́рвое.Today is the first.
Сего́дня второ́е.Today is the second.
Сего́дня тре́тье.Today is the third.
Сего́дня четвёртое.Today is the fourth.
Сего́дня пя́тое.Today is the fifth.
Сего́дня шесто́е.Today is the sixth.
Сего́дня седьмо́е.Today is the seventh.
Сего́дня восьмо́е.Today is the eighth.
Сего́дня девя́тое.Today is the ninth.
Сего́дня деся́тое.Today is the tenth.
Сего́дня оди́ннадцатое.Today is the eleventh.

Although English speakers never say “Today is the first date,” Russians will also commonly say «Сегодня первое число». In that case it is best to translate it simply as “Today is the first.”

To include the month, use the genitive case form of the month:

Сего́дня пе́рвое января́.Today is the first of January.
Сего́дня второ́е февраля́.Today is the second of February.
Сего́дня тре́тье ма́рта.Today is the third of March.
Сего́дня четвёртое апре́ля.Today is the fourth of April.
Сего́дня пя́тое ма́я.Today is the fifth of May.
Сего́дня шесто́е ию́ня.Today is the sixth of June.
Сего́дня седьмо́е ию́ля.Today is the seventh of July.
Сего́дня восьмо́е а́вгуста.Today is the eighth of August.
Сего́дня девя́тое сентября́.Today is the ninth of September.
Сего́дня деся́тое октября́.Today is the tenth of October.
Сего́дня оди́ннадцатое ноября́.Today is the eleventh of November.
Сего́дня двена́дцатое декабря́.Today is the twelfth of December.

These forms are also used in the past and future tenses, always with the neuter singular verb form.

Како́е вчера́ бы́ло число́?What was yesterday's date?
Вчера́ бы́ло пя́тое ма́я.Yesterday was the fifth of May.
Како́е за́втра бу́дет число́?What will the date be tomorrow?
За́втра бу́дет два́дцать девя́тое.Tomorrow will be the twenty-ninth.
