When does it happen?

The phrases "Когда?" and "Во сколько?" and "В котором часу?" can all mean "At what time?" They are often answered by the phrases in the following examples and table. Oddly enough, even though "В котором часу?" asks the question in the locative-prepositional case, the answer usually comes in the form of a time phrase in the accusative case after the preposition в.

Examples:

Когда начинается передача?
Она начинается в два часа. 		When does the show start?
It starts at two o'clock.
Во сколько начинается передача?
Она начинается в два часа. 		When does the show start?
It starts at two o'clock.
В котором часу начинается передача?
Она начинается в два часа. 		When does the show start?
It starts at two o'clock.
Когда начинается передача?
Она начинается в два часа дня. 		When does the show start?
It starts at two o'clock in the afternoon.

Next we have a table with all the possible times of day on the hour.

Передача начинается в час ночи. The show starts at one o'clock in the morning.
Передача начинается в два часа ночи.The show starts at two o'clock in the morning.
Передача начинается в три часа ночи.The show starts at three o'clock in the morning.
Передача начинается в четыре часа утра. The show starts at four o'clock in the morning.
Передача начинается в пять часов утра. The show starts at five o'clock in the morning.
Передача начинается в шесть часов утра.The show starts at six o'clock in the morning.
Передача начинается в семь часов утра.The show starts at seven o'clock in the morning.
Передача начинается в восемь часов утра. The show starts at eight o'clock in the morning.

The words полдень noon and полночь midnight are used in time telling:

"Передача начинается в полночь."
"Передача начинается в полдень."

These time phrases can also be used in the past and future tenses.

Передача началась в час ночи. The show started at one o'clock in the morning.
Передача начнётся в час ночи. The show will start at one o'clock in the morning.
