Like contemporary critical theory,
hypertext
reconfigures-rewrites-the author in several obvious ways. First of
all, the figure of the hypertext author approaches, even if it
does not entirely merge with, that of the reader; the functions
of reader and writer become more deeply entwined with each other
than ever before.

to be present, marking off the edges of the text, revealing, or
at least characterizing, its mode of being. The author's name
manifests the appearance of a certain discursive set and indicates
the status of this discourse within a society and a culture.
