Duane Roen, Head
Interdisciplinary and Liberal Studies
School of Letters and Sciences
On July 1, 2009, Duane Roen, Professor of English, began his duties as Head of Interdisciplinary and Liberal Studies in the School of Letters and Sciences at Arizona State University to administer two degree programs: Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies (BIS) and Bachelor of Liberal Studies (BLS).
From 2004 to 2009, Duane served as
Head of Humanities and Arts (recently renamed Interdisciplinary Humanities and Communication) in the School of Applied Arts and Sciences at Arizona
State University at the Polytechnic campus.
Roen directed ASU's Center
for Learning and Teaching Excellence from 1999 to 2004.
Prior to his appointment in the Center, Roen served as Director of ASU's Writing
Programs from 1995 to 1999. He held the rank of Professor
in the Department
of English at Arizona State University
from 1995 to 2004.
Previously, Dr. Roen held teaching and administrative appointments in The
Writing Program at Syracuse
University and in the Department
of English at the University of
Arizona in Tucson.
Dr. Roen has published seven books and has authored or co-authored
more than 190 chapters, articles, and conference papers in the
areas of rhetoric,
composition, and teaching.
He is Vice President of the Council of Writing
Program Administrators and Secretary of the Conference on College Composition and Communication.
Duane Roen earned his bachelor's and master's degrees at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls and his doctorate from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.
