about me

Hi! I am a Ph.D student in Geology at Arizona State University. I study sedimentary rocks and volcanic ash layers from the Afar Depression in Ethiopia to learn about past environments (2-3 million years ago when early humans were around...) and divergent rift tectonics. I am also interested in geomorphology. I have a second project investigating land use change associated with the first appearance of agropastoralism  (~10,000 years ago) in the Mediterranean basin (southeast Spain). Please see my related webpages for specifics about these projects.

I also feel strongly about motivating and sharing what we do as scientists with our next generation of explorers! As a result, I have been active in several outreach programs for K-12 students throughout my own education. These efforts have been associated with the National Science Foundation, NASA, and the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History and are based on supporting the teaching of STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) disciplines.
