Welcome to my webpage. My name is Erika Beam and I am a geology major with a physics degree and astronomy minor. I am originally from the Pacific Northwest, living in both Washington and Oregon. I graduated high school in 2001 and immediately went to Central Washington University in Ellensburg, WA. I earned my B.S. in Physics in 2005 (the astronomy minor was like 2 or 3 classes more so figured I might as well go for it). Even while I was working on my degree in physics, I had a very strong interest in geology. It might have been in my best interest to switch my degree but I chose to finish it out even though I'm not all that good with physics. I eventually ended up moving down to Arizona in June of 2007. After being down here for a while I decided that I should go back to school and study geology. I started working on my geology degree this last fall semester. Hopefully, I'll get to dust off my other degree and use it with the geology degree.
The main research project that I have done in the past was on windmill sound propagation. It was my job to figure out how the noise from a windmill traveled based on dimensions of the windmill, wind speed, terrain, and climate. In Washington state this was turning into a big deal around the time I was doing this project.
