I can relate to the image and quote above because I am lucky to have been able to "spread my wings [and] fly" (and am continuing to do so) as I have lived in three continents in pursue of my dream of becoming a distinguished member of the academia. Originally from Indonesia, I came to the U.S. in 2001 to do my doctorate in English with a concentration in Rhetoric/Composition and Linguistics at Arizona State University. I have a bachelor's degree in English Language and Literature from University of Indonesia, and a master's degree in Education (with a specialization in TESOL/Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) from Monash University, Melbourne, Australia, where I lived for a year and a half. I am very interested in researching about cross-cultural pragmatics and contrastive rhetoric, and teaching and learning with technology. My dissertation will combine these, as I will be investigating international students’ perceptions of the relationship between technology and learning. Now that I have done it for many years, I can truly say that I love teaching as it enables to me to not only share my knowledge but also, and I think more importantly, to continuously learn from others. My teaching experience includes teaching English (as a Second/Foreign Language) to learners of different levels since 1993, and teaching Indonesian in Australia and the U.S. Here at ASU, I have taught both native and non-native English speakers at different levels in traditional/face-to-face, computer-mediated and hybrid settings.
