NOTE: In reporting the averages from the test we drop
the lowest scores. This is because 20% (1 out
of 5) of all scores will eventually be dropped.
In comparing your average with the class average
you need to compare with an average which is
representative of the final average. Dropping
the lowest scores before reporting the average
is one way of ESTIMATING the effect of the final
drops. These posted test averages are not used
in any way in computing the final overall class
       average. GBA

Overall Pre-Exam Average

79 students have taken four or more tests and have more
than 600 HW points. For these 79 students, the
     overall averages are

                     % points

      test 63.99 38.39

overall 54.0 out of 80 possible pre-exam points

                       or 67.5% <-- Predicted Pre-Exam Average

Assuming an average of 65 on the final, or 13 out of
20 points, results in a predicted overall average of 67.0.
With this predicted average a POSSIBLE breakdown of grades
would be:

                50.2 - 60.6 D
                60.7 - 71.6 C
                71.7 - 82.2 B

You should figure your pre-exam total then figure how many
exam points (out of 20 possible) you need to get the grade
that you want. Remember that the true final grade scale
ultimately depends on overall class exam performance. Also,
the final grade scale will be selected so as to find gaps
in the final grade distribution.

FINAL EXAM

      the final exam average is

            25.6 out of 40, or 64.0%.

FINAL AVERAGE

78 students took 4 or more tests plus the final exam
and had more than 600 HW points (there were 4 students
who took the final exam who either did not take 4 or
more tests or else who had less than 600 HW points).

for those 78 here are the averages:

                     % points

overall 67.3 (out of 100) <== Final Average

The final grade scale was selected so as to find gaps
in the grade distribution. Here is that final scale:

        48.6 - 59.0 D
        59.1 - 69.6 C (above 67.3 is C+)
        69.7 - 79.1 B (below 72 is B-, above 76 is B+)
        79.2 and up A (below 83 is A-, above 93 is A+)

Letter grades were assigned strictly according to this
scale. The highest E is 46.2, the lowest D is 48.6; the
highest D is 58.0, the lowest C is 59.1; the highest C
is 68.7, the lowest B is 69.7; the highest B is 77.5,
and the lowest A is 79.2. The smallest gap between
levels is 1.0 points between C to B.

Be sure to check your TA's computation of your final grade.
