NOTE: In reporting the averages from the test we drop
the lowest scores. This is because 20% (1 out
of 5) of all scores will eventually be dropped.
In comparing your average with the class average
you need to compare with an average which is
representative of the final average. Dropping
the lowest scores before reporting the average
is one way of estimating the effect of the
       final drops. GBA

Overall Pre-Exam Average

Note: Some errors were found in the reported averages for
one section. These corrections were put in on
      Mon 5/07 at 11 PM.

114 students have taken four or more tests and have more
than 100 HW points. For these 114 students, the
     overall averages are

test 65.5 (multiply by 0.6 to get # of points)

        HW 7.5

        QUIZ 8.1
   ________________________

overall 54.9 points out of 80 possible pre-exam points

                or 68.7% <-- Pre-Exam Average

Estimating an average score of 14 (70%) on the final
exam results in a predicted final average of 68.9 points. With
this final average, a possible final grade scale would be

                  52.9 - 63.4 D
                  63.4 - 74.4 C
                  74.4 - 84.9 B

The true final grade scale depends on overall class exam
performance.

            26.4 out of 40, or 66%.

FINAL AVERAGE

106 students took 4 or more tests plus the final exam

for those 106 here are the averages:

         HW 7.7 (out of 10)
         quiz 8.3 (out of 10)
test 66.5 (multiply by 0.6 to get #points)

         exam 26.4 (out of 40 - divide by 2 to get #points)

overall 69.1 (out of 100) <-- Final Average

The final grade scale was selected so as to find gaps
in the grade distribution. Here is that final scale:

                    52.9 - 63.4 D
                    63.5 - 74.4 C
                    74.5 - 84.4 B

Letter grades were assigned strictly according to this
scale. The highest E is 51.8, the lowest D is 53.1; the
highest D is 62.9, the lowest C is 64.4; the highest C
is 73.7, the lowest B is 75.5; the highest B is 83.9,
and the lowest A is 84.6. The smallest gap between
levels is 0.7 points between B to A.

If you find a significant error the best time to see me is
Thursday afternoon or Friday between 10:30 and 11:30 AM. After
that time any change of grade requires a change of grade form.
