4/29 A copy of the solutions to Test 5 is now
available at the Noble Library Copy Center.

4/26 When studying for Test 5, please note that
there are questions relevant for Test 5 on
Old Test 4. Your last chance to turn in
HW will be in the lecture hall prior to the
start of Test 5. We will post your final
test, HW, and quiz averages ASAP after the
test. Then I will post an estimate of the
final grade scale. The Final Exam is 40 MC
questions on Mon May 6 from 10:00-11:50 AM.

Please note that the final class average is
simply the cumulative average for everyone
who has at least 100 HW points and who has
taken 4 or more tests plus the final exam.
The individual test averages, as posted on
the CLASS AVERAGE web site, have nothing
      whatsoever to do with the final average;
they are only estimates, because we do not
know which tests will be dropped at the end.

4/16 A copy of the solutions to Test 4 is now
available at the Noble Library Copy Center.

4/10 There will be an extra office hour this week
starting at 5:15 Thursday in PSF-462.

4/9 When studying for Test 4, please note that
there are questions relevant for Test 4 both
on Old Test 3 and on Old Test 5. Also, the
MC question #4 on Old Test 4 should actually
be labeled NA, as we didn't do any problems of
that type this year. That question is very
similar to Problem 2 on Old Test 4, but with
the U-shaped wire removed. In such a case,
there is still an induced EMF in the moving
bar (which can be found from the integral of
v cross B dot dl), but there is no current
because there is no complete circuit.

4/2 A copy of the solutions to Test 3 is now
available at the Noble Library Copy Center.

3/28 I will off campus most of Friday afternoon. If
you wish to request a restricted withdrawal be
sure to see me before 10:30 Friday morning.

3/25 Reminder: My rotating office hour in 462 meets
on Monday this week, that is, Mon March 25 from
9:10-10:30 in PSF-462. Also, as you study for
Test 3, please notice that Old Test 4 contains
some questions which are relevant for this
year's Test 3. Those relevant questions (Biot-
Savart Law questions) are marked with the words
      "Test 3".

3/20 I am lecturing for Prof. Sankey from 8:40-9:30
today. Therefore, I will not be available
      today immediately after class.

3/18 I have permanently added an extra office hour
(Physics Festival) on Tuesdays from 2:40-3:30
      in PSF-462.

3/5 A copy of the solutions to Test 2 is now
available at the Noble Library Copy Center.

3/4 In tonight's HW (HW #19) drop problem 28 and
add problem 33 from Ch 28 of HRW. NOTE: In
the figure for problem 33 the direction of
EMF2 is incorrect. It should be pointing up.

2/22 There will be an extra office hour (Physics
Festival) in PSF-462 this Tuesday (2/26) from
2:40 - 3:30. Please note that my Monday hour
will again be from 4:30-5:30. On Mon March 4
the Mon hour will return to its usual
      3:00 - 4:00 time period.

2/18 Please note that, this week, my rotating
office hour meets on Wed from 9:15-10:30
      in PSF-306.

2/11 A copy of the solutions to Test 1 is now
available at the Noble Library Copy Center.

2/8 Due to scheduling conflicts in 462, some
permanent changes to my office hours are
necessary. Please see the new schedule.

2/3 There will be an extra office hour (Physics
Festival) in PSF-462 this Tuesday (2/5) from
2:40 - 3:30. Also, an extra half hour in
      PSF-462 from 8:40 - 9:10 Monday morning (2/4).

1/30 In tonight's HW (HW #7) drop problem 28 and
add problem 44 from Ch 24 of HRW.

1/25 In tonight's HW (HW #5) drop problem 47 and
add problem 45 from Ch 23 of HRW.

1/22 The old tests are now available in the Noble
Library Copy Center. They are available with
or without solutions. The 'without solutions'
version is useful for giving yourself a timed
      practice test.

1/14 Comments on the neatness and organization of HW.

It is to your advantage to make your HW as
neat as possible. If your TA can follow your
logic clearly, then it is more likely that you
will receive the proper credit for your work on
      the 10 point problems.

It is also to your advantage to organize
your HW as clearly and as neatly as possible.
This increases the likelihood that your TA will
find all of the one point problems and be able
to determine that you have made a "good faith
attempt to solve them." Please do not simply
copy down the right answer and then expect to
receive credit for an attempt to solve any
      particular problem.

Neatness and good organization is to your
own advantage as well as a point of consideration
for your TA and for your fellow students, whose
papers are being graded at the same time as yours.
Remember that your TA is grading as many as 100
      HW papers per week.

Homework that is EXCESSIVELY sloppy and/or
disorganized, to the point of being extremely
difficult or impossible to grade, will not receive
credit, at the disgression of your TA. In such
a case the TA will make a copy of your HW paper,
in case of an appeal to the course instructor.
