PROBLEMS TO BE WRITTEN UP AND TURNED IN AT RECITATION These problems are due at your first recitation meeting after Wed 04/20. Each problem should be written on a single sheet of paper (front and back), or if multiple sheets are used, staple them together. For full credit, the work must be neat, with clearly labeled diagrams. The labels must be in BOTH words and symbols. For each part of the problem, you must BRIEFLY explain your strategy in words, as well as neatly showing your physics equations and math, with proper units. Wolfson Chapter 34 problem 6, p. 909. (10 points) HRW Problem Supplement #1 - CHAPTER 32 (15 points) P28. Suppose that a parallel-plate capacitor has circular plates with radius R = 30 mm and a plate separation of 5.0 mm. Suppose also that sinusoidal potential difference with a maximum value of 150 V and a frequency of 60 Hz is applied across the plates; that is V = (150 V)sin[2pi(60 Hz)t]. (a) Find B_max(R), the maximum value of the induced magnetic field that occurs at r = R. (b) Plot B_max(r) for 0 < r < 10 cm. HINT: Wolfson Chapter 34 problem 4 is useful here, but you are not allowed to use that result without proving it.
