Test 1 Averages Based upon the statistics that I have available, namely CPS grades, WebAssign grades, dates of completion of WebAssign HW, and Quiz grades, the best estimate I can make for which students are following my tips for success would be those students who have at least an 80% CPS average, a 90% WebAssign average, a 50% quiz average, and who have completed at least 75% of their WebAssign HW at least 12 hours before the deadline. For these students, the Test 1 average is 93.4 out of 125 or 74.7%. Students who are giving themselves little or no chance of success would include anyone with a CPS average of less than 75% and a WebAssign average of less than 80%. For these students, the Test 1 average is 38.6 out of 125 or 30.9%. My best estimate for those students who are getting the minimum amount of practice required to have a reasonable chance of success in PHY111 would be those students who have at least an 80% CPS average, a 90% WebAssign average (without looking at the completion date of the assignments), and at least a 25% quiz average. For those students, the Test 1 average is 75.7 out of 125 or 60.6%. At minimum, your work will be compared against the average work of this group of students. GBA Test 2 Averages For students who have an 80% CPS average, a 90% WebAssign average (without looking at the completion date of the assignments), and at least a 25% quiz average, the Test 2 average is 80.9 out of 125 or 64.7%. At minimum, your work will be compared against the average work of this group of students. GBA Students who are giving themselves little or no chance of success would include anyone with a CPS average of less than 75% and a WebAssign average of less than 80%. For these students, the Test 2 average is 42.6 out of 125 or 34.1%. Finally, for those students who have at least an 80% CPS average and a 90% WebAssign average as well as a 50% quiz average, and who have completed at least 75% of their WebAssign HW at least 12 hours before the deadline, the Test 2 average is 95.2 out of 125 or 76.2%. I was glad to see that the number of students in this category has increased since Test 1. These are the students who, as best as I can determine based on the stats I have available, are following the tips for success in PHY111. Test 3 Averages For students who have an 80% CPS average, a 90% WebAssign average (without looking at the completion date of the assignments), and at least a 25% quiz average, the Test 3 average is 61.0 out of 125 or 48.8%. At minimum, your work will be compared against the average work of this group of students. GBA Students who are giving themselves little or no chance of success would include anyone with a CPS average of less than 75% and a WebAssign average of less than 80%. For these students, the Test 3 average is 34.9 out of 125 or 27.9%. Finally, for those students who have at least an 80% CPS average and a 90% WebAssign average as well as a 50% quiz average, and who have completed at least 75% of their WebAssign HW at least 12 hours before the deadline, the Test 3 average is 79.3 out of 125 or 63.4%. Since Test 2, we lost one student from this category, but also added one. These are the students who, as best as I can determine based on the stats I have available, are following the PHY111 tips for success. Test 4 Averages For students who have an 80% CPS average, a 90% WebAssign average (without looking at the completion date of the assignments), and at least a 25% quiz average, the Test 4 average is 68.6 out of 125 or 54.9%. At minimum, your work will be compared against the average work of this group of students. GBA Students who are giving themselves little or no chance of success would include anyone with a CPS average of less than 75% and a WebAssign average of less than 80%. For these students, the Test 4 average is 44.3 out of 125 or 35.4%. Finally, for those students who have at least an 80% CPS average and a 90% WebAssign average as well as a 50% quiz average, and who have completed at least 75% of their WebAssign HW at least 12 hours before the deadline, the Test 3 average is 89.6 out of 125 or 71.7%. We lost five students from this category since Test 3, probably because we are getting near the end of the semester, and also because many of these students already had three good test scores and so decided not to work so hard for Test 4. The students who are still in this category are those who, as best as I can determine based on the stats I have available, are following the PHY111 tips for success. Final Exam Averages All 53 Final Exam Scores Average is 22.11 or 55.3% For students who have an 80% CPS average, a 90% WebAssign average (without looking at the completion date of the assignments), and at least a 25% quiz average, the Final Exam average is 26.44 out of 40 or 66.1%. Students who are giving themselves little or no chance of success would include anyone with a CPS average of less than 75% and a WebAssign average of less than 80%. For these students, the Final Exam average is 18.60 out of 40 or 46.5%. Finally, there are those students who, as best as I can determine from the stats I have available, are following the PHY111 tips for success. In this case, I included any student who had made this category for two of the four tests. The basic requirements were a 80% CPS average and a 90% WebAssign average as well as a 50% quiz average, and completion of at least 75% of their WebAssign HW at least 12 hours before the deadline. For this group of students, the Final Exam average is 31.0 out of 40 or 77.5%. Here is that final scale: 42.8 - 53.1 D 53.2 - 67.8 C (above 65.7 is C+) 67.9 - 78.8 B (below 73 is B-, above 76.9 is B+) above 78.8 A (below 80.4 is A-, above 88 is A+) Letter grades were assigned strictly according to this scale. The highest E is 39.2, the lowest D is 42.8; the highest D is 51.2, the lowest C is 53.2; the highest C is 66.1, the lowest B is 67.9; the highest B is 76.9, and the lowest A is 78.9. The smallest gap between levels is 1.8 points between C to B. For information on how to figure your final grade see HOW TO FIGURE YOUR FINAL GRADE.
