1st test averages

   110 students took Test 1

The average for all 110 students is 67.93%

Since 33% of all Test scores will eventually be dropped, it is
prudent to compare your score with the average for the
     highest 67% of scores.

77 students scored 60 or more on Test 1

The average for the 77 students who scored 60 or more is 77.90%

2nd test averages

   106 students took Test 2

The average for all 106 students is 61.93%

Since 33% of all scores will eventually be dropped, it is
prudent to compare your score with the average for the
     highest 67% of scores.

70 students scored 52 or more on Test 2

The average for the 70 students who scored 52 or more is 74.43%.

3rd test averages

   105 students took Test 3

Since one test can be dropped, many students choose not
to study as hard for Test 3 (in comparision with Tests 1
and 2). For example, only 21 out of 105 students
completed the 4 Relativity HW's before Test 3. As a
result, we report the average only for those students
who did not drop Test 3. The Test 3 average, for those
students who did not drop Test 3, is 56.1%.

overall 72.34 <-- final class average

The details of the final grade scale were primarily
determined by the presence of gaps in the grade distribution.
Here is that final grade scale.

      below 44.3 E
      44.3 - 55.0 D
      55.1 - 72.9 C (above 69.9 is C+)
      73.0 - 82.6 B (above 79.6 is B+, no B- grades this year)
      above 82.6 A (above 94.0 is A+, no A- grades this year)

Letter grades were assigned strictly according to this
scale. The highest E is 39.8, the lowest D is 44.3; the
highest D is 52.9, the lowest C is 55.2; the highest C
is 71.7, the lowest B is 73.0; the highest B is 81.5,
and the lowest A is 82.7. The smallest gap between
levels is 1.2 points between B to A.

If you find a significant error in your recorded grades,
contact your TA by email. At this point, any change will
require that we fill out a change-of-grade form. For
information on how to figure your final grade see

HOW TO FIGURE YOUR FINAL GRADE.

A Histogram and a Column of Overall Grades (with letter
grades) can be found on our Overall Grades page.

Thanks for a great semester. GBA
