REGISTERING FOR MASTERING PHYSICS

REGISTRATION FOR OUR CLASS IS NOW OPEN.

                 USERS WITH ACTIVE ACCOUNTS

Login at masteringphysics.com. You will then be given the
opportunity to register for a new class. The class code is

                       MPADAMS30195

Don't forget to USE YOUR ASU POSTING ID for your student ID
number. If you use anything else for your student ID number,
then your MP grade will never be transferred properly to my
  online gradebook.

                         NEW USERS

IMPORTANT: BE SURE TO USE YOUR ASU POSTING ID when asked
to enter your "Student ID number".
What if I don't know my ASU Posting ID?

To sign up for Mastering Physics, you may either purchase
Mastering Physics online at the Mastering Physics web site,
or else use the 6-word Registration Code that comes with the
Mastering Physics Packet packaged with a new textbook or else
purchased separately from the ASU bookstore. Either way, you
start by selecting "Students" at the MP website. If you are
  paying with a credit card, you still have to select a textbook;
select Young and Freedman University Physics 13th Edition.
Later in the process, you will be given the option of
selecting Mastering Physics with or without an electronic
text (online, MP is $66 without etext and $110 with etext).

Once you are registered, then go through the logon process
for the version you have purchased. At this point, the program
will ask you for an identification code (AKA the Course ID) for
  our class. This code is

                       MPADAMS30195

It will also ask for your student ID number. BE SURE
TO USE YOUR ASU POSTING ID, in the form 1234-567.

                       TIPS ON SUBMITTING
             HW ASSIGNMENTS WITH MASTERING PHYSICS

These HW assignments are designed to be done ON YOUR
OWN. You are of course allowed to work in study groups
and to get help from myself, your TA, tutoring centers,
etc.; but, if you get too much help on an assignment,
then you can expect to have difficulties with the tests
and quizzes. As much as possible, try to do the
assignments on your own, using the provided hints and
feedback. In our class, there is never any penalty for
opening a hint, but once a hint is open, you are
expected to answer any question that you find there.

Please, never use your browser's BACK button in the
middle of an Mastering Physics session. The system is
designed to only move in the forward direction.

The way things are set up at this time, you will have
eight opportunities to answer each part of each problem.
There will also be a wrong-answer penalty of 3% per
  wrong answer.

Most constants that you might need when working on
an MP assignment are within the Resources pull-down
box in the upper right-hand corner of the screen. Any
other constants should be given in the statement of
the problem or else available within tables in your
  selected text.

Always use three significant figures in your
numerical answers (unless the program gives other
instructions for a particular problem). Numerical
answers must be correct to within 2%.

After the due date, completed items may be
reworked for practice. This "rework for practice"
is not saved and does not affect your grade in
  any way.

TIPS FOR USING THE SYMBOLIC ANSWER ENTRY FORMAT:

To escape from superscript or subscript mode, use
  the rightarrow (→) key.

If you are a good typist, almost everything can
be typed, instead of taking the time to use the
Math Palette. For example, sqrt is square root,
^ is superscript, _ is underscore, rho is the
  greek letter ρ, etc.

If you want to know how to type a particular
symbol used in the question, just put your cursor
  on top of the symbol.
