NOTE: In reporting the averages from the test we drop the lowest scores. This is because 25% (2 out of 8) of all scores will eventually be dropped. In comparing your average with the class average you need to compare with an average which is representative of the final average. Dropping the lowest scores before reporting the average is one way of ESTIMATING the effect of the final drops. These posted averages are not used in any way in calculating the final class average. GBA 1st test 43 students took test 1 Multiple Choice 30 students earned 20 or more points for those 30 the average was 35.3 (58.9%) Problems 31 students earned 29 or more points for those 31 the average was 45.2 (69.5%) multiple choice grades problem grades 2nd test 42 students took test 2 Multiple Choice 31 students earned 30 or more points for those 31 the average was 38.3 (63.8%) Problems 31 students earned 34 or more points for those 31 the average was 45.87 (70.6%) multiple choice grades problem grades 3rd test 41 students took test 3 Multiple Choice 29 students earned 27 or more points for those 29 the average was 41.9 (69.8%) Problems 31 students earned 27 or more points for those 31 the average was 41.6 (64.0%) multiple choice grades problem grades 4th test 38 students took test 4 MC 37 students took test 4 Problems Multiple Choice 28 students earned 20 or more points for those 28 the average was 34.2 (57.0%) Problems 28 students earned 20 or more points for those 28 the average was 37.0 (56.9%) multiple choice grades problem grades Overall averages 38 students took three or more tests (including the fourth test) and had at least 106 homework points for these 38 students the final CPS average is 4.57 points (out of 5) the final HW average is 7.11 points (out of 8) the final quiz average is 6.21 points (out of 7) the final test average is 49.30 points (61.63% of 80) the overall average is 67.2 points Note that the overall average includes all students who took three or more tests (including the fourth test) and who had at least 106 HW points. The test average is computed by dropping the lowest MC section and the lowest problem section for each student (except one section of test 4 must be kept), computing each student's average, and then computing a global average for all 38 students. With this final average, the final grade scale is 43.0 - 53.6 D 53.7 - 67.0 C (above 65.1 is C+) 67.1 - 80.6 B (below 70.0 is B-, no B+'s this year) 80.6 and up A (no A-'s this year, above 91.1 is A+) with below 43.0 as E. The final scale was selected so as to find gaps in the distribution. With the scale as given above the highest E is 34.3, the lowest D is 47.6, the highest D is 50.9, the lowest C is 53.8, the highest C is 65.7, the lowest B is 67.1, the highest B is 75.2, and the lowest A is 80.8. The smallest gap is 2.4 points between C and B. Grades were assigned strictly based on this scale.
