NOTE: In reporting the averages from the test we drop
the lowest scores. This is because 25% (2 out
of 8) of all scores will eventually be dropped.
In comparing your average with the class average
you need to compare with an average which is
representative of the final average. Dropping
the lowest scores before reporting the average
is one way of ESTIMATING the effect of the
final drops. These posted averages are not
used in any way in calculating the final class
       average. GBA

Overall averages

37 students took three or more tests (including
the fourth test) and had at least 1000 Sapling
           HW points

           for these 37 students

the final TP average is 4.35 points (87.0% of 5 points)

the final HW average is 6.83 points (85.4% of 8 points)

the final quiz average is 5.33 points (76.1% of 7 points)

the final test average is 44.58 points (55.73% of 80 points)

the overall average is 61.1 points

Note that the overall average includes all students who took
three or more tests (including the fourth test) and who had
at least 1000 HW points. The test average is computed by dropping
the lowest MC section and the lowest problem section for each
student (except one section of test 4 must be kept), computing
each student's average, and then computing a global average
for all 45 students. With this final average, the final grade
scale is

           36.1 - 43.3 D
           43.4 - 62.7 C (above 58.5 is C+)
           62.8 - 77.0 B (below 65.9 is B-, above 73.4 is B+)
           77.1 and up A (below 79.3 is A-, above 92.1 is A+)

with below 36.1 as E. The final scale was selected so as to
find gaps in the distribution. With the scale as given above
the highest E is 31.7, the lowest D is 36.1, the highest D
is 41.3, the lowest C is 43.4, the highest C is 58.6, the
lowest B is 62.9, the highest B is 73.6, and the lowest A
is 77.2. The smallest gap is 2.1 points between D and C.
Grades were assigned strictly based on this scale.
