ProTools Recording
Via the Mixer
The following outlines the process of making a ProTools recording of one or more of the synthesizers routed into the mixing board.
Board Setup:
1. All input sliders on the mixer must be down except for those pertaining to the synthesizers you wish to record. In particular, you don't want the ProTools returns (sliders 1-8) up since they
can induce a nasty feedback loop into the process.
2. Two patch cords should be inserted in the mixer patch bay. One should go from the left/left "MIX OUT" jack to the PROTOOLS SND#3,5,or 7, and the other should go from the left/right "MIX OUT" jack (there are 2 output jacks for MIX L and 2 for MIX R. You want to use the ones to the left on each) to the PROTOOLS SND#4, 6, or 8. Choose adjacent pairs (3/4, 5/6, 7/8).
ProTools Setup:
1. Create a new ProTools document and request 2 new tracks.
2. Set the inputs for these channels on inputs those selected in #2 above (The inputs on the patchbay that you patched into).
3. Record enable the track(s) and set a good level. Remember, ProTools does not give you control over the input level; that is on the board at the Yellow Fader (Main mix level).
4. Start the record process by hitting the record button on the transport and clicking on play. Start the sequencer program playing the synthesizers and when done, stop the ProTools recording.
Creating the Soundfile:
1. Highlight the appropriate area to make into an AIFF file.
2. Choose bounce to disc from the File menu. Choose the single file stereo format. Bounce!
