MTC 437/598 MaxChallenge#3: Controlled Random Texture
Due date: Wednesday, March 4, 2009
Objective:
Create a patch which performs an evolving series random textures.
Specific Requirements:
1. The basic texture must contain at least 2 simultaneous layers of sound in which the
speed is fairly rapid (although not necessarily constant).
2. The pitch content must be derived from a set of pitches that is not the
chromatic scale. This set of pitches must be stored via the table object.
3. Velocity must vary in a controlled random manner.
4. Both the size of the pitch field and frequency of velocity accents must change
according to a plan over the duration of the work. The work should last 1-2 minutes.
5. A change in any of the above (#4) elements must be printed in the MAX window as
it occurs.
6. MIDI channel and patch for the wavestation must be set at the beginning with an
"Init" button.
7. There must be a clock showing elapsed seconds.
Suggested appearance (with one layer only shown. Message boxes used only to display
what data is input -- these should not be actually
in the patch as true messages):
Format:
The Patch labeled "Random Texture" should be placed in your
folder on the hard drive. This patch should be in a folder labeled "Random" that
also includes the table for the patch. A brief description of the form of the
work should be included on the patch in the form of a comment.
Grading:
Will be based on the
workability and economy of the patch.
